This program is for high achievers who have the formal education but are looking for street skills and life skills to help them rise in their organizations and achieve a work-life balance.
The skills we discuss in LLP fall into two broad categories.
The first is Street Skills. Here you will learn a new approach to getting what you want. It could be a new job or a promotion. It could be selling skills or negotiating skills. It could be dealing with peer rivalries or winning the political battles at work. In SOS we teach how to use the principle of counter-intuition to get what you want. As an example, many of our students have gotten promoted or found new and better jobs.
The second fall in the category of Life Skills. At some point in our lives, we ask eternal questions. Things like, who am I and what is really important to me. What does success mean to me and what makes me happy. These are the vital questions that help us make the right choices in life. To discover one’s self, we teach mindfulness and the inner journey. These subjects help in answering the difficult questions about life. Most college curriculums do not teach these issues.
Both these skills require that we regularly question and revise our beliefs. That is how we grow as human beings. As part of the SOS experience, we discuss how to understand all major belief systems in the world today. This includes all major eastern and western religious traditions. What do they have in common and what sets them apart. We also discuss how to establish and revise your own beliefs.
The Life and Leadership Program (LLP) is a 9-month program, starting in late August of each year and ending in the following year in the month of May. Classes are held once a month at the Houstonian Athletic Club. This is supplemented by smaller study groups that are focused on the individual needs of the students.
Typically, our participants are between 40 – 60 years of age and have a minimum of 10 years work experience. We select about 15 persons each year. The normal selection process is by the nomination of prior graduates or mentors in the SOS family. Since we are unable to accept all applicants, we have a rigorous selection process and maintain a waiting list in case we have last minute cancellations.
